How Far Can a Ring Camera See?

The sensor-based approach upon which battery-powered Ring devices operate works fairly well, but it has some drawbacks. For example, it can’t work behind glass. And if you’re going to install your device right next to the front door, you might get many unwanted alerts for small movements.

But the latest models of Ring have taken steps to address these issues. Their advanced IR sensors use multiple elements of light to detect motion, so they can distinguish between different kinds of movement. And they have an adjustable field of view (FOV), so you can decide how far you want to be able to see.

In addition to this, some of the newer Ring models have a feature called Smart Alerts that can help you distinguish between different kinds of motion. This can be helpful when you’re concerned about a specific activity, such as an intruder or suspicious car parked nearby. You can choose whether you want to receive an alert for every possible motion, or just those involving people.

Another way you can control how far your Ring camera can see is by setting up motion zones. These are areas that you can create in the app to focus your camera’s attention. You can also adjust the frequency with which your camera checks for motion. This helps you avoid getting unnecessary notifications, especially at night time when the quality of video and images becomes poor. You can also set up a schedule to turn off your camera at certain times of the day.
