How Far is The Shire From Mordor in Middle-earth

The Shire is a region in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, inhabited exclusively by the hobbits and largely insulated from what goes on in the rest of the world. When Sam and Frodo decide to leave the Shire on their quest to destroy the One Ring, they have a long trek ahead of them.

They need to get from Bag End in the Shire to Rivendell, then from Rivendell to Moria, then finally from Moria to Mount Doom. It’s a six month journey. And that’s without taking into account the time they spent resting in Rivendell or a month with the Elves of Lothlorien.

This journey would take them across craggy rocks, flat marshes, and into the caves of spiders. It’s a long trek and they need to be careful to avoid armies of Orcs and Sauron’s legions. And of course they have to carry the One Ring with them. That’s a heavy burden.

The Conqueror Challenges app has updated its Middle-earth map with challenges that take you from The Shire to Mordor. Each workout you complete pushes your avatar a little further on the journey, and along the way there are stories and postcards that detail the pitfalls and dangers that Frodo and Sam faced.

The Mordor challenge is live now and runs until May 31. Keep track of your daily activity and report it using our web form. You can walk, cycle, swim or run to reach the set distances and you can track your progress on our Middle-earth map as you get closer and closer to Mordor.
