How Fast is the Flash?

Whether you're a fan of the Arrowverse version starring Grant Gustin or the DC Comics version starring Ezra Miller, there's one thing that everybody knows about Central City's Scarlet Speedster: He moves really fast. But how fast is the flash, and can he sustain such speed for extended periods?

In the comics, Barry Allen taps into something called The Speed Force to power his superhuman speed. This is a mystical "velocity dimension" that exists outside of space and time as we know it, and the more he connects to it, the faster he goes. While he can generate his own speed through physical exertion, tapping into the Speed Force is the best way to get the most out of his powers.

The DC comics version of the flash is known to achieve speeds up to 13 trillion times the speed of light. However, he can only maintain this incredible rate for a brief amount of time. This is why it's difficult to race Superman or other heroes who can achieve speeds much higher than the Flash. They can move so quickly that the people right next to them don't even see them disappear, making it almost impossible for regular humans to keep up.

During one of his most impressive feats, the original Wally West outran the Black Flash, who was the embodiment of death. This race took place at a pace that was more than just the speed of light, as West traveled beyond the point where time itself stopped.
