Motorola is an historic tech company that has invented a number of important mobile devices over the years. In 2000, Motorola hired the advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather to create an innovative campaign. Ogilvy & Mather noticed that in some markets, people referred to their Motorola phones simply as “Moto.” They decided to use this moniker as the basis for the new marketing campaign.
The campaign was a success. It was a huge hit with consumers and helped Motorola become the number two handset manufacturer in the US. However, the company began to struggle when competitors like Nokia and Samsung introduced more advanced smartphones. In 2004, Motorola introduced the RAZR, which became the best-selling clamshell ever made. The RAZR was a sleek, black flip-phone that could browse the internet, send email and alphanumeric characters, and act as a radio.
By 2011, Motorola had fallen behind Samsung and Apple in market share. The company was bought by Google in 2012 and renamed Motorola Mobility. Today, Motorola Mobility makes a wide range of mobile phones and tablets that are popular among consumers. They are known for their impressive processor speeds, cameras and storage capabilities.
