Steve Lacy, who is an American musician and producer, is a musical maverick who is redefining the music scene with his mesmerizing melodies and talent. He has already risen to fame as a member of the Grammy-nominated band, The Internet and is a force to be reckoned with. Having worked with artists like Solange Knowles and Kendrick Lamar, this jazz musician has garnered an impressive fan base. His latest song, Bad Habit has become a viral hit on the TikTok platform.

Born and raised in Compton, California, Lacy first developed an interest in the guitar at age seven through the Guitar Hero video game, but soon wanted to learn how to play an actual instrument. He joined the jazz ensemble at his high school and met future bandmate Jameel Bruner, with whom he later formed The Internet. During this time, he started producing and composing his own songs on his iPhone and using a plug-in for his guitar called the iRig. In 2015, he began producing on what would become the Internet’s third studio album, Ego Death.

Lacy has since worked with a host of artists including Ravyn Lenae on her EP Crush and their 2018 follow-up, Hive Mind, Kali Uchis on her debut album, Isolation, Mac Miller on his 2018 album Swimming, and Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes on his album Negro Swan. He has also released two solo albums, Gemini Rights and Apollo XXI. He is a prolific producer who is well-versed in genres such as neo-soul, alternative R&B, funk, jazz, indie rock, and psychedelic soul.
