How to Archive a Discord Channel

Discord is a popular platform that has many features that users love. One of those features is the ability to archive channels when they are no longer active or necessary. This article will show you how to do this quickly and easily in just a few steps.

Archiving a channel will hide the discussion from plain view. It will still be accessible through the Thread Discovery feature in the sidebar, but it will not appear in the regular channel list. If the discussion ever becomes relevant again, you can always unarchive the channel.

You can also choose to delete a channel, which will permanently remove it from the list of available channels and make it unaccessible. Only Workspace Owners and Admins can delete channels, so be sure to consider carefully before making this choice. Deleting a channel will also delete all messages that were sent in it, so be sure to export any important information before proceeding.

To archive a conversation, click the three dots in the upper right corner of the message and select “Archive Thread”. You will then be presented with this menu where you can choose a name for the thread and set an archive timer. Once the timer expires, the thread will be hidden from regular view, but you will still be able to discover it through the Thread Discovery feature.

Some third-party Discord bots and moderation tools may offer an "archive after inactivity" functionality as part of their core functionality. However, this is not a feature that is officially supported by Discord and the availability of such features can vary widely between servers.
