Choosing a team is a major decision that can significantly affect your gameplay. Until February 26th, however, it was not possible to change your team without having to contact Niantic’s customer support and start fresh with a new account.
With the launch of a new in-game item called the Team Medallion, players now have the ability to change teams in pokemon go without having to make a whole new account. Changing teams in pokemon go comes with pros and cons, though, and should be considered carefully before making the move.

In the Pokemon Go items shop, you will find a Team Medallion for purchase. This item costs 1,000 PokeCoins, which is a high price to pay for a single in-game item. This will likely mean that you will have to forego purchasing other items, like incubators or extra storage, while saving up for the Team Medallion.
To use the item, simply scroll down to the Team section and tap on the team that you want to join. You will be prompted to confirm the change, which can only occur once every year. After that, you will be able to play as your newly selected team. This can give your experience a fresh start and provide you with a variety of new experiences, including gyms and Pokestop control, a different leader with their own backstory and guidance, and other rewards.
