Video-sharing platform YouTube now offers Shorts, bite-sized videos that can be created or curated. While many users have embraced the new feature, some find it disruptive and wish to disable youtube shorts. Fortunately, there are several ways to remove or hide Shorts on both the mobile and desktop versions of YouTube.

You can manually mark every Short as "Not interested" by tapping the three-dot menu and selecting the option. This feedback directly tells YouTube that you're not interested in seeing Shorts, and over time can train the algorithm to gradually stop showing them as frequently in your feed.

Using Alternative YouTube Apps

Some third-party apps and modified versions of the YouTube app offer more control over what content is shown, including disabling Shorts. However, it's important to be aware that these apps may violate YouTube's terms of service or pose security risks.

Disabling YouTube Shorts on Mobile

You don't have a dedicated button to disable youtube shorts on the mobile app or web browser, but you can disable them by following these steps. Open the YouTube app and tap your profile picture in the top-right corner to open Settings. Tap the "History & privacy" tab, then select the toggle switch next to "YouTube Stories (Experimental)" to disable it.

You can also disable youtube shorts on desktop by visiting the YouTube website in your browser and clicking the X next to the Shorts shelf. This will remove them from your homepage and sidebar, though it will not prevent them from appearing in your feed or on videos that you watch. For Firefox users, browser extensions like Hide YouTube Shorts or Remove YouTube Shorts can work similarly to block this type of video from your YouTube experience.
