Mushrooms come in all shapes and sizes, some of them being delightfully psychedelic while others are painfully poisonous. They also can be found in a variety of colors ranging from white, black and red to blue and green. The beauty of this type of fungi is that it allows for some great trippy art to be created.
Start by sketching a mushroom cap shape. Next, sketch a couple of circles that are smaller than the one in the center of the cap. Sketch these circles randomly across the cap. This will give the mushroom a spotted look.
Sketch curving lines that are like folds of a curtain on the sides of your mushroom drawing. Don’t connect the curves at this point as you will be adding a stem later on.
To add a realistic appearance, sketch a mushroom stem below the caps. Make sure that the stem is proportional to the size of the caps. Some mushroom species also have rings on their stems that connect to the underside edges of both sides of the stem. Sketch these ring-like parts on the mushroom stems as well.
To finish the drawing, mask in the light-painted areas of your mushrooms using a soft brush at 10% opacity. This will help to bring out the detail in the drawings. Lastly, color your mushroom drawing. Draw the stems of the mushrooms a light green, while the caps should be painted a reddish-orange color. To complete the look, draw blades of grass in the background of your mushroom drawings.
