Running in sand is great for the feet and mind, and it makes for an interesting change from road or trail runs. However, sand can be tricky because it tends to bounce and fly around at every fall, making it easy for it to enter running shoes. In addition, sand often contains sharp debris like stones, thorns or sticks that can pierce running shoe soles and cause blisters.

Luckily, there are several methods to keep sand out of running shoes. Many of these tips focus on preventing sand from entering running shoes in the first place, but others focus on methods to remove sand once it has made its way into your shoe.

If you have a hose handy, running a spray over your shoes is a quick and effective method of washing away loose sand. The key is to use a high-pressure nozzle that can help dislodge sand from the nooks and crannies of your shoe.

A vacuum cleaner is another tool that can be used to suck out sand from your running shoes. This method is especially useful for getting sand out of running shoes that you cannot run in the water, such as shoes with closed mesh.

Using a rag or toothbrush to scrub the inside of your shoe is also a good way to get sand out of your shoes. This can be particularly useful for scrubbing the toe and heel areas of your running shoes, where sand is most likely to gather.
