Another way to get more items is by shaking trees. This will give you a maximum of two pieces of furniture per day. You can also find a lot of materials by hitting rocks on your island. By hitting rocks you can get materials like stone, clay, iron nuggets and even money (or centipedes). Just be careful when you hit a rock because it will knock your character back slightly and not be quick enough to hit it again.
Finally, if you want to pick up apples quickly, you can do so by using the slingshot. This item is sold by Tom Nook at the Resident Services building. You can also sell it to other villagers if you have the Nook Shopping app on your phone. You can even use the slingshot to pick up other fruits that are scattered around your island.
