How to put boomerangs on vsco
The latest addition to the GIF-creation app race comes from VSCO, maker of one of the highest-grossing photo-editing apps. The company has released DSCO, a free iOS app that lets you create animated GIFs from video you capture on your iPhone. It joins Instagram’s recently launched Boomerang, Giphy Cam, and Snapchat’s looping video filters.
DSCO isn’t much more complex than its competition: You press and hold a button to record a short burst of video, then use one of the presets available (including limited-edition ones that have been made in collaboration with MTV). TechCrunch says it produces a result similar to Instagram’s Boomerang, but it loops 2.5 seconds instead of just a single photo.
It’s easy to share your gifs on Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook from DSCO as well. You can also save them to your Camera Roll or send them to other apps using iOS’s share sheet. The app includes a “Profile” button at the bottom of the screen that displays all the animated DSCOs you’ve recorded.
It’s not clear whether DSCO will appeal to the same crowd as its competitor, but it’s a solid entry into this category of apps and it does a good job of making creating animated GIFs super simple. It’s also a great way to bring some of the visual style of VSCO to a new audience that might not be interested in buying a separate filter pack.
