Whether you’re attending youth sports events with your children, or watching professional games with friends, winter outdoor sporting events can be uncomfortable. These events are often long, and spending so much time outdoors in cold weather can cause you to feel chilled quickly. The good news is that there are some things you can do to stay warm at outdoor sporting events.
Layer your clothes. Start with a thermal that traps your body heat and wicks away sweat. Next, put on a light jacket or hoodie that will keep the wind off your skin and allow you to easily remove it as the day goes on and temperatures decrease. Finally, top it off with a pair of thick gloves or mittens and a warm hat (preferably one that ties around the back of your head so it will keep more of your body heat in).
Don’t be overdressed. If you’re overdressed, you will feel warm and cozy while you’re standing or walking around, but as soon as you sit down and stop moving, your clothing will sweat and cool down, leaving you even more chilled than before.
Drink warm beverages. Warm liquids not only help you to remain hydrated, but they also keep your core temperature up by boosting blood flow. Be sure to pack a large thermos of your favorite beverage to have throughout the game, and consider adding hand warmers to your bag for extra warmth in your hands.
