When Microsoft ditched the Start button in Windows 8, people went crazy trying to get it back. Now the company has added a new feature that’s driving many users mad—Life at a Glance, a panel that displays news stories, weather updates, and sports scores from Microsoft News. In this article, we’ll show you how to turn it off, along with several other tips that will help you make the most of your Windows 10 experience.
The single biggest change in Windows 10 is the new, hybrid Start menu, which combines elements of the old and new. On the left, it gives you direct access to apps you use most often and that you’ve installed recently, as well as important commands and places like “Power” and "All apps." The right side is yours to customize.
Beneath your account photo and name is a section that’s called Life at a glance, a collection of applications Windows recognizes you use most frequently. To the right of that, there’s a more extensive list of apps that you might use less frequently but still regularly. If you use a program a lot, you can pin it to the Pinned section of jump lists so it won’t disappear on you (click the > button, then click the pushpin).
You can also choose which folders appear in the All apps part of the Start menu. To do this, open the app that you want to add to Life at a glance or the All apps part of the Start menu, then either click or drag the app onto the Life at a glance or the All apps parts of the Start menu.
