The LED flash next to the camera lens on the back of an iPhone and iPad* can blink when your device receives a notification, which is useful for anyone who might miss audible alerts. You can enable this feature in Settings, under Accessibility, under Audio/Visual.

In the Camera app, tap the flashlight button to toggle it on and off. The flashlight will stay on even if you exit the Camera app and open another app. You can also use the shortcut on the lock screen to activate a specific setting, such as auto mode or a particular filter.

With the introduction of the iPhone XS and XR, Apple has introduced some handy new features that allow you to control your camera's flash from the lock screen. These functions were designed with accessibility in mind, but they're also great for healthy users who just want a quick way to turn on the flashlight when needed.

Open the Camera app and swipe up from the bottom of the viewfinder area to open Control Center on an iPhone with a Home button, or swipe down from the top of the screen on an iPhone without one. Select the Flashlight option from the list of controls, which will open an options menu with various choices, including options to change the brightness and enable or disable the automatic flash.
