Grocery shopping is a time-consuming chore, and Instacart offers the ability to skip the trip and hire someone else to do it for you. Instacart shoppers are independent contractors who can shop, drive, and deliver your order to you for a fee.
The app displays available stores in your area, including grocery chains like Albertsons, Aldi, Costco, Kroger, Sprouts Farmers Market, and more, as well as convenience shops and pet retailers. Instacart also partners with membership-only stores, allowing you to shop at places such as BJ’s Wholesale Club and Sam’s Club without having to buy a membership outright.
You can browse for items and place them in a virtual cart. Once you’re done, you can check out and select a delivery window. You can also leave your shopper delivery instructions and request preferred replacements for out-of-stock items. You can pay with cash, debit cards, or credit cards. Instacart charges a delivery fee, service charge, and tip. In some cases, you can even select same-day delivery.
Instacart partners with Klarna to allow you to pay in four interest-free payments, every two weeks. You can choose the Klarna option at checkout, and you’ll be able to view your payment schedule online or in the Klarna app.
You’ll need a smartphone to use Instacart, and the app can run on iOS or Android devices. You’ll also need a computer with a web browser, an internet connection, and an email address to create an account. Instacart requires you to pass a background check before you can begin working for them, and they’ll provide training.
