IGN Dune review:
Despite the occasional gripe about a lack of plot or a slow start, most critics have come out singing the praises of Denis Villeneuve’s massive sci-fi epic. It’s a true spectacle to behold, and one that has garnered an 85% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya and Oscar Isaac lead a star-studded cast in this adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 science-fiction classic. However, it’s Jason Momoa’s turn as Dune’s hero, Duncan Idaho, that’s truly stealing the show. The movie is set in a futuristic interstellar feudal society where noble families control planetary fiefdoms. When House Atreides accepts stewardship of the inhospitable desert wasteland Arrakis, the family hopes to use its precious melange resource to extend life and enhance mental abilities. But melange must be mined from the planet’s icy water sources, and control of Arrakis is coveted by the evil space guild House Harkonnen and their violent Sarduakr army.
