iPhone Says No SIM Card Installed When There Is One

The tiny little SIM card in your iPhone is one of those things you don’t think about until it stops working. Whether you’re using an older iPhone that accepts a physical SIM or a newer model that shuns the traditional slot in favor of an eSIM, it’s one of the most essential pieces of hardware in your smartphone – allowing you to make calls from anywhere on Earth, fire off text messages, and access mobile data from the middle of nowhere.

If you’re seeing the “No SIM card installed” error message on your iPhone, there are a few easy fixes that could resolve the problem. Try one of the following steps:

Update iOS

It’s possible that the issue with your iPhone is caused by an outdated version of iOS, the software that runs the phone. To check if you have an updated version, open the Settings app and then tap General. If there’s an available update, hit Download and Install to get the latest version.

Remove your SIM and try another one

If you’re still getting the No SIM Card Installed error, it’s possible that your phone or the SIM card is broken. To test this, find a friend with the same iPhone and insert their SIM card into your phone. If the error disappears, it means that the original SIM is either defective or needs to be replaced. You can typically do this in your carrier store, and it’s a much faster process than going to an Apple Store.
