kuat trio review

The Kuat trio is one of the slickest looking roof racks for bikes on the market and offers a sleek design with an integrated cable lock. It is very versatile as it utilizes Kuat’s 3-Way fork mount system and can accommodate a wide range of fork axle sizes including 9mm, 15mm, and 20mm. It is also compatible with fat bike forks and wheels.

Setup is relatively simple with the Trio, and once it’s on the vehicle the rack is secure. It does require some patience to get the four security bolts tightened, but is easier with two people. Depending on the fork size, it can take some effort to feed the thru-axle through the tube as well. Using the Trio on factory crossbars on my Subaru Outback did cause some side guardrail interference, but this is easy to resolve with longer crossbars or by moving the rack further back on the vehicle.

Like most bike racks, the Trio can be used with either a 1.25" or 2" hitch, but the larger 2" option is capable of carrying slightly more weight than the 1.25" version. Other important features to note are that the Trio is available in a variety of colors and finishes, and most of Kuat’s other racks include integrated or semi-integrated security cables. This includes the NV 2.0, Sherpa 2.0, Transfer V2, and the award-winning Piston Pro X.
