When it comes to external storage, there are lots of options to choose from. You can go with traditional hard disk drives (HDD), solid-state drive (SSD), or even USB thumbdrives. However, it all depends on your requirements as to what kind of storage you want.

For example, if you’re looking for a portable device that can read large files pretty fast, then an SSD is the way to go. On the other hand, if you’re looking for an external storage that can be used on multiple platforms (either Mac or Windows), then an HDD is more suitable for you.

The LaCie Mobile Drive is an interesting external storage solution that combines both of these requirements. It’s got a beautiful diamond cut aluminum case that can reportedly withstand a 3m drop and it’s also bundled with macOS mirroring and backup software. This, plus the included 3-year warranty and rescue plan, makes this a very appealing storage option.

Another thing that sets this apart from other similar devices is that it features a USB-C port, which means it’s compatible with both the latest MacBook Pro models and other PC laptops that support this type of connection. It also offers a one-month subscription to the Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps plan, a three-year warranty and a rescue plan that provides one-time data recovery in case of a disaster.

The performance is pretty decent too. It can transfer a 1GB file in around 6 seconds, which is fairly impressive for an HDD. The only issue is that it’s not waterproof or dustproof, which might be a deal breaker for some users.
