With matte lips continuing to reign supreme, MAC has joined the bandwagon with their new Retro Matte liquid lipcolour. I got my hands on five of the shades and here’s a quick look at them.
The lipsticks come in the classic MAC packaging with a clear tube that makes it easy to identify the shade. The applicator is a flat teardrop one which is precise and easy to use. The formula feels lightweight on the lips and is non-sticky, creamy and comfortable to wear. However, it does dry down to a complete matte finish and it also accentuates fine lines so it is best if you exfoliate your lips well before applying this or use a good, emollient lip balm beforehand.
What I love about the lipsticks is their unbeatable pigmentation – you get one swipe pigment and they are opaque. I tried Carnivorous which is a deep oxblood shade that looks blackish maroon under certain lighting conditions and red under others. It is a perfect dark vampy shade for fall.
The lipstick is transfer proof and stays on for a good 6-8 hours. It fades a little from the centre of the lips after eating oily food but otherwise it is long lasting and doesn’t feather or bleed. It does have a powdery feel to it and it does flake a bit but it isn’t that bad and it’s not as drying as other liquid lipsticks. It also doesn’t smudge and comes off easily with makeup remover.
