Modern Player Tele Plus Review

The Modern Player Tele Plus HSS is a triple-pickup guitar that delivers the kind of variety you'd expect from a model that's helped define rock and blues history. Fender's taken the classic axe and added an extra element, a mini-toggle coil-split for the Modern Player humbucking bridge pickup, making this guitar ideal for musicians who want to cover a broad spectrum of musical styles.

The guitar has a pine body, which is an interesting choice for Fender and may put off traditionalists who insist on premium woods like ash or alder. But pine is a very resonant wood, and it's also light and easy to handle. Plus, it has a great look and feel.

Another nice touch is the maple neck with medium jumbo frets, which are a little shorter than a regular jumbo and help make this guitar feel more contemporary and less vintage. The jumbo frets also give the guitar an incredibly clear and precise sound.

Plugged in and turned up to 11, the Modern Player Tele Plus can deliver the kind of tone that will impress even the most critical guitar snobs. The humbucker's high output can handle plenty of gain, while the middle single-coil is perfect for Stevie Ray Vaughan and Hendrix vibes with a little overdrive. With the 5-way switch and the tone and volume knobs, you'll have no problem finding a tone to suit your taste. And with a Telecaster this versatile, you'll find it hard to stop playing.
