Actor Manikandan, who made his debut as a screenwriter with the critically appreciated courtroom drama Jai Bhim, has recently completed directing his first film Narai Ezhuthum Suyasaritham. The telefilm stars Delhi Ganesh and himself in the lead roles and is streaming on the OTT platform Sony Liv. Produced by Shashank Vennelakanti, the film has cinematography by Vasanth Kumar and songs composed by Radhan of Arjun Reddy fame while Rajesh Ramakrishnan handled the editing work.
Despite the obvious Godfather inspired gangster storyline and some cliched moments, the movie works well thanks to the performances of the entire cast. Mammootty delivers a great performance as Basil and manages to pull off the godfather like swag like no one else. The supporting cast including Nadia Moidu, Shine Tom, Sreenath Bhasi and Soubin also shine. Unlike the superstar mass movies, the other actors don’t get sidelined here and are given a good amount of meat to their characters.
Definitely, this is a worth watching movie for all the Manikandan fans. It may not be a perfect film but it certainly tries hard and is different from all the other stylish superstar cop flicks. It also takes a risk to not give the audience a happy ending and this is why it falls short of expectations at times. Nonetheless, it is still a great attempt and you should watch the film for sure. Just don’t expect it to be a blockbuster. Enjoy the film!
