The Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50 F2 builds upon the reputation for sturdiness and performance that Nightforce has built in their NXS series rifle scopes. It expands on that reputation by offering second focal plane adaptability in a compact package, allowing shooters or hunters to utilize a second focal plane reticle that maintains its size across the magnification range for both fast close-range engagements and detection, identification, and engagement of targets at long distances.
The optical quality on this scope is excellent. It’s bright and clear with a simple illuminated reticle, which is perfect for hunting elk and bear in the dark timber here in Montana. The reticle has great contrast, and it tracks perfectly on target when using the zero stop. It also comes back to zero very quickly.
One issue with this scope that may bother some is its finicky eyebox; the NX8 needs to be positioned just right for a clear sight picture. This can be a challenge for some with odd rifle mounts, cheekweld positions, etc. Other higher end scopes like the Kahles K318i are much more forgiving in this regard.
This scope is a bit on the expensive side, but it’s worth the price for what it offers. The features it offers are top notch, including ZeroStop elevation adjustment enabling a quick return to zero, capped windage adjustments to prevent accidental adjustments, a 50mm objective designed for light transmission and resolution, and parallax correction from as close as 11 yards to infinity. It also has a DigIllum reticle illumination system and an integrated power throw lever.
