Pearl has a good reputation for producing affordable drum sets and they rarely disappoint even hardcore drummers. Their kits usually feel solid and function as advertised, sound decent, and can take a fair share of abuse without complaining. This is especially true for the Soundcheck series.
The set was designed with beginners in mind and includes everything you need to start playing drums. It comes with a set of shells made from 9-ply mahogany for deep mids, sufficient warmth and classic tone and a durable high gloss covering. The shells are complemented with matching hardware and a Zildjian ZBT Cymbal Pack that provides an 18” crash ride, 13” hi-hats and a 14” ride.
Unlike many entry-level drum sets, this set has a 22” bass drum that has been fitted with a custom-designed maple ring to produce more open undertones and less muddiness. The kit also features a pair of 10 by 9” and 12 by 10-inch toms as well as a 14-inch snare drum. The combination of these components provides a versatile and powerful drum sound that can be used for a wide range of musical styles.
Another feature that makes the kit stand out is the included e/Merge electronic drum module, which offers a wide selection of onboard acoustic drum kits and a whole world of synthetic percussion sounds and melodic instruments. The module’s MIDI capabilities mean that you can easily record the kit and use it for live performances. It also allows you to use it as an acoustic drum set when recording music in a studio.
