The peavey vypyr pro is an amp that offers a lot of features for only $299. It can be used for electric guitar, bass and acoustic guitar. It also has a bunch of effects built in. This makes it a great amp for beginners or anyone who wants to get into acoustic and electric guitars. It also has a lot of functions that make it very easy to use.
The amp models themselves sound surprisingly authentic for a modeling combo at this price. The high-gain amps, for example, do a good job of matching the tone of the amps on which they're based. The Plxi (Marshall 'Plexi') model sounds very similar to Eddie Van Halen's 6505 signature amp. It's not the ultimate, maximum gain metal amp, but it does a solid job of approximating the big, crunchy rock 'n' roll tones of some of our favourite bands.
Each of the amps also offer a few custom settings. The Classic model, for instance, belts out a nice overdrive tone with plenty of scope for picking dynamics. It's not quite as tight and dynamic as a handwired tube amp, but for a modelling combo at this price it's pretty impressive.
The effects, which are all post-preamp, have a nice variety of styles. From Andy Summers-style delay and modulation to sixties surf shimmers to full-on Zakk Wylde shred, the vypyr has you covered. It's also got a USB port that allows you to plug in a PC and edit your rig in a variety of different ways.
