Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has found himself in hot water with TikTok fans after he criticised 15-year-old star Charli D’Amelio. A petition calling for Hilton to be removed from the video platform has gathered more than 60,000 signatures so far. The petition was created by Avani Gregg, who is part of the Hype House TikTok collective and a friend of D’Amelio’s. Hilton seems to be happy about the petition because he has set up a Twitter bot that automatically replies to anyone who shares the link with a message saying “thank you for supporting my petition,” along with the hashtag #PerezHiltonIsOverParty.
Hilton started his online gossip column in 2004, and made a name for himself by reacting to celebrity news and doodling on pictures. His humorous reactions and controversial opinions became a huge hit, but also earned him a lot of anger from celebrities and people in the public.
Hilton has had multiple lawsuits filed against him for copyright infringement (sharing a Britney Spears audio recording and topless picture of Jennifer Aniston, among other things) and his site has been hacked several times. In 2010, he took a stab at Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi, who committed suicide after his roommate used a webcam to spy on him kissing a man.
