Review of One Perfect Lie

In this suspenseful and fast-paced story, New York Times bestselling author Lisa Scottoline hits a home run. She has created an intriguing story that takes on domestic terrorism with high-flying style.

The story begins with Chris Brennan (or as he is better known to the readers, Curt Abbott) landing a job in Central Valley Pennsylvania as a government teacher and baseball coach. He immediately bonds with the students and their families. But the truth is that he is living a lie, he is on a mission and has targeted several teen boys and their families for some unknown reason. He seems to have a hidden agenda and it isn’t really clear why he has chosen this small affluent town.

Throughout the story, it becomes increasingly obvious that Chris isn’t what he appears to be. He has a false background, and he has a well-rehearsed story for the people he meets. However, his intentions aren’t fully revealed until the very end of the book.

There are a number of twists that Scottoline includes in the story to keep the reader guessing. She is a pro who knows how to tell an action-packed story without grizzly violence or overuse of vulgar language. She has captured the high school milieu from athletic rivalries to sexting very well in this story.

This is a great thriller that is full of twists, turns and a whole lot of lies. It is a good read for anyone who enjoys thrillers that don’t require a lot of graphic violence.
