Rocky Patel Cigars Bridge The Gap Between Mainstream Availability And Boutique Craft.
The Rocky Patel brand is a collection of premium handmade cigars primarily coming from Honduras and Nicaragua. Rocky Patel produces his superior blends at some of the top factories in the world including El Paraiso in Danli, Honduras and Tabacalera Villa Cuba S.A. (TaviCusa), a boutique factory in Esteli, Nicaragua owned by Rocky and his father and son team.
To celebrate master blender and brand owner Rocky Patel’s 60th birthday, Rocky created a limited edition series of three luxurious sizes – the RP 60 Toro, the RP 60 Box Press, and the RP 60 White Label. Each cigar boasts a vintage Mexican San Andres wrapper over a core blend of long-filler tobaccos aged for no less than 6 years before being hand-rolled.
RP 60 opened with sweetened cocoa and earth notes that were complemented by fruit and a subtle black pepper note on the retro-hale. This combination remained the foundation for most of the smoke’s duration until about a third into the smoking experience, when a distinct vanilla flavor emerged.
At this point, the strength began to increase at a slightly faster rate, while the body of the cigar maintained its edge throughout. This was an excellent smoke - medium to full bodied and offering some depth of flavor to the palate.
While the ash on this cigar did require some touch-ups along the way, the burn was never in danger of going off the burn path, which I appreciate. The ash was a medium-gray color that wasn’t firm or loose, while the burn rate and temperature were ideal.
