simi cabernet sauvignon 2018 review

The 2018 simi cabernet sauvignon is dark garnet in color with a ruby edge. Toasty oak frames and adds depth to fruit aromas of dark bramble and dried blueberry, leading into intriguing notes of exotic spices and roasted coffee. Lifted aromas of juniper and subtle violet add generosity, layers, and aromatic complexity.

Earthy cassis and high-tone red fruit frame and add depth to a deep, mouth filling, juicy Cabernet Sauvignon from the warm Alexander Valley. Elegant, incredibly food friendly, and not a puzzle to pair, it will bring out the best in grilled strip loin with a roasted mushroom jus, Moroccan spiced lamb shoulder, or a baseball sirloin burger.

Founded by brothers Giuseppe and Pietro Simi who immigrated to California during the Gold Rush in 1876, Simi is one of Sonoma County’s oldest continuously operating wineries. They didn’t find gold, but they did discover a love for the craft of making world class wines and their legacy lives on today at this Healdsburg based winery.

Simi is owned by Constellation Brands and produces quality wines sourced from Sonoma County with an emphasis on single vineyard designate offerings including the Russian River Valley, Anderson Valley and Alexander Valley. Their Reserve tier offers distinct Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs and Cabernet Sauvignons from noteworthy Sonoma County sub-AVA’s and single vineyard designates.

The all-female led winemaking team at SIMI is headed up by Lisa Evich. She began her career at SIMI, but has since diversified her experience with stints at Pine Ridge and Arrowood before returning to her home at SIMI where she is committed to maintaining the timelessness of both the winery and their world class wines.
