The Monta Triumph Review
After the release of their first model, the Oceanking, this microbrand quickly gained traction with watch fans and enthusiasts. It was a departure from their dive watches, and offered a solid set of specs at a price point that was more accessible than their competitors.
Those in the know will have spotted Monta's line at various shows and events around the world over the past several years, especially during the "micro-brand" boom. As their name suggests, they focus on producing high-quality, Swiss-made watches at an accessible price point for buyers who might not have otherwise considered purchasing a traditional Swiss timepiece.
The new Atlas GMT takes some of the design elements from their Oceanking and Skyquest models, but combines them in a more dressy package that is sure to please many who appreciate the brand's consistent style. The result is a watch that feels very much like a heirloom piece, but still retains the functionality that makes it useful in real life.
One of my favorite features of the case is the alternating brushed and polished edges. The brushed surfaces are smooth, satiny, and perfectly finessed to a finish that is neither smudge-prone nor fingerprint-attracting. The polished edges pick up the brushed surface and add a touch of elegance to the otherwise tough-looking watch.
The dial is very easy to read with its full Arabic hour markers and large applied indices that complement the printed numeric indices. The rehaut and frame surrounding the date window add depth to the dial and the flat, inner-coated anti-reflective sapphire crystal further helps with readability.
