The ooni karu 12 review is the second smallest and least expensive of Ooni’s portable pizza ovens. It is very similar to the larger Koda model with a few key differences.
Its smaller size makes it easier to transport, store and carry while also being a little lighter than other Ooni models. It also has a carry case available to help protect it from the elements if you are storing it outside and to keep it from getting dinged up during transit.
Like all the Ooni pizza ovens it comes with a thick ooni baking stone and their patented flame keeper to help ensure that you get great, crispy crusts. It can be used with charcoal or real wood chunks or a combination of both and is gas compatible. It has a relatively quick heat-up time when using gas or charcoal and can reach high temperatures for a true restaurant style pizza.
A curved shape helps maximise airflow around the oven while ceramic fiber insulation keeps the heat in. Like the other Ooni pizza ovens it has a built in temperature gauge which is a nice feature to have, but you can also add an infrared thermometer if you want even more precise control.
The only difference between this and the other two 12 inch Ooni models is that it does not have a door. While a door may help keep the heat in better, it can also obstruct visibility while you are cooking. However, if you want to be able to see your pizza while it cooks you can still get the multi-fuel Karu or the pellet run Fyra which have doors.
