igrill 2 review

The igrill 2 is one of the first app-connected meat thermometers that uses Bluetooth to monitor cooking temperatures. It allows you to monitor up to four different probes, either ambient or meat specific, from your smart device.

The free iGrill app is the central dashboard that monitors your food as it cooks (it says it has a 150-foot range for its Bluetooth connection). You simply download it to your phone or tablet, plug the thermometer's hub into your grill and each of its temperature probes into whatever you're cooking. The app will alert you the moment your food reaches the internal temperature called for in a recipe.

There are a number of preset recipes to choose from and you can also add your own custom ones. The app is very easy to use and the makers continually update it to fix bugs, add features and improve the user experience. A feature that's missing is the ability to track a cook using all of its probes, but the rest are really solid.

There's a handy LED temperature display on the hub that makes it easy to see in direct sunlight, too. The two high-temperature Pro probes are also magnetically mounted, and both have an extra-long reach (so you don't have to worry about snagging them on your grill). If there are any issues with the igrill 2, Weber has excellent customer support. You can call, email or chat with a representative via the website. There's also plenty of product FAQs and downloadable manuals, as well as recipes and other helpful information to help you get the most out of your new barbecue gear.
