Toshiba's Satellite lineup offers affordable everyday laptops for less. Their computers come in various sizes and feature Intel Celeron processors - this model, the Satellite A105, features both powerful dual-core processing power as well as an incredible Full HD IPS display in a compact chassis - complete with built-in webcam and trackpad! In addition, all this comes packaged into one slim package complete with AC adapter, user manuals and the notebook itself!
The chassis is made of plastic imitating brushed aluminum with a glossy finish that doesn't attract fingerprints and smudges; it feels solid too. The keyboard has backlighting for added comfort with minimal flex. Chromed oval mouse buttons feature chromed oval power button; while its power button features silver-and-blue LED on its top edge.
Although this computer is quite compact, it offers plenty of expansion ports. These include three USB ports - including one that doubles as an eSATA port for high-speed external drives - along with SD card reader, Ethernet port, and VGA for connecting external monitors or televisions.
For multimedia use, the Satellite A105 doesn't offer high-res HD video viewing or loud speakers; however, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 helps make up for these shortcomings by supporting both 720p and 1080i content, and offering media controls at the left side of keyboard for controlling playback - plus its S-Video out port allows it to connect easily with most modern TVs.
This notebook's dual-core 2.26GHz Intel Celeron P8400 processor and 4GB of RAM allowed it to achieve an exceptional score on our PCMark Vantage test. Furthermore, its impressive CD ripping time was 3 minutes 30 seconds while conversion of 43.2 minutes of MP3 music into lossless format took only 1 minute 41 seconds, both exceeding category averages.
In addition to its above-average CPU performance, the Satellite A105 also demonstrated outstanding battery life; our video playback test lasted nearly eight hours! While its 512MB of graphics memory may suffice for basic tasks such as web browsing or word processing, its lack of dedicated graphics make it unsuitable for gaming; 23 fps were managed when using F.E.A.R autodetect mode but only 6 when running native resolution.
The Satellite A105 is an ideal desktop replacement for those on a tight budget. At an excellent value, its quality display and impressive battery life make this laptop ideal for casual users and students on limited budgets who don't want to invest too much into their first laptop purchase. We highly recommend it for casual users looking for their first portable PC; also recommended as an ideal choice for students or home users needing space saving compact computer capable of light productivity work and multimedia tasks; for a few dollars more you could upgrade it even further with faster processor and more advanced GPU; such as adding Quad Core processor would make this machine much more competitive among its desktop predecessors or midsize notebook competitors alike!
