Watch Who Is America Reddit
When Who Is America premiered in 2018, it instantly became a pop culture phenomenon. The Showtime series saw comedian Sacha Baron Cohen don a variety of fake identities to trick politicians and internet trolls into sitting down for embarrassing interviews on camera.
Almost every episode is a master class in the art of humiliation, with many of the targets leaving the set wringing their hands in shame for the rest of the day. That shame may come from the fact that they were dragged into this circus, but the shame also stems from having to publicly admit that they’re not as smart or as good-looking as they thought they were.
It’s hard to blame the show for its success, but it does suffer from the same problem that plagued Da Ali G Show and Borat: it’s simply a Sacha Baron Cohen programme made up of segments that all aim to make famous people look stupid in some way. And while some of those segments do hit their marks (especially the poor gallery owner who’s coaxed into pulling out her pubic hair in one of the best episodes), other ones feel like a scattershot riff on reality television that Cohen half-sketched out in 2005 and forgot about until now.
