weller cypb review

Weller CYPB is the crowdsourced whiskey that resulted from Buffalo Trace asking hardcore Weller fans to login to a website and “Craft Your Perfect Bourbon.” From thousands of entries they came up with a general consensus of a wheat recipe bourbon aged eight years on the top floor warehouses at 95 proof. They then put that together in this yearly limited-edition expression and it’s been a big hit.

CYPB is a pretty good bourbon and if you pick it up at MSRP of $40 it’s a solid deal. However, it’s not worth the secondary market prices of $500+ that this bourbon has become a victim of.

It’s not as good as Pappy Single Barrel, but I wouldn’t say it’s a knock off either. Rather it’s a great well-rounded wheated bourbon that’s probably better than anything you’ll find in the Larceny or Maker’s Mark lineups.

It’s easy to drink and is a nice dram whether it’s neat or with ice. It’s smooth and easy with no heat, spice or bourbony burn and the rich vanilla and dark fruit flavors come through very nicely. It’s the best bourbon I’ve tried this year so far. It’s a little lighter in profile than the main age-statement Weller 12 but it’s equally as delicious. I really want to get my hands on a bottle of this stuff for myself and it would be a fantastic gift for anyone that’s into bourbon. Hopefully we’ll see more of this in the future.
