What Did River Song Whisper to the Doctor?
In the 2008 series four two-parter 'Silence in the Library'/'Forest of the Dead' (written by Steven Moffat during the Russell T Davies era), River Song reveals to the Doctor that she is his future wife. The Doctor tries to convince her that it is not possible for the future to change, but River insists that he knows her true and secret name. She manages to convince him that she is someone he will trust completely in the future, despite the fact that she does not have the ability to communicate verbally.
She then reveals to the Doctor that she has been broadcasting to the entire Universe that the Time Lord is dying, which is why so many people across the galaxy have gathered to watch him die. She orders her employee Nardole to stay with the Doctor and keep an eye on him. The Doctor tries to explain that it is not necessary, but River insists that the future will not allow him any mercy.
Eventually, the Doctor convinces her to marry him right there and then by promising to use the power of time travel to ensure that they have a perfect date. She reluctantly consents, but he warns her that she has 24 years to live before she is forced into the Library again. She realises that this means she only has one night on Darillium left. He tells her to look into his eyes and whispers her his name once again.
