Dunkin’ Donuts (now just Dunkin’) has a new high-tech store that features an innovative tap system for cold drinks. It’s a part of the chain’s “Next Gen” stores and is designed to streamline the process of ordering and serving beverages. The new location also has a drive-thru window that allows DD Perks members to order ahead and skip the line.
Essentially, the tap system lets you choose from eight cold sips including iced coffee and iced tea, plus nitro-infused cold brew. This version of the coffee is made by steeping the grounds for longer periods of time which can help create a smoother and less acidic flavor profile. The drink is already available in select locations and is a favorite among many coffee drinkers.
In addition to the new tap system, the location is a DD Green Achievement restaurant and saves 25 percent of energy compared to a typical Dunkin’ Donuts store. The store also has a new design with espresso machines located in the front lobby to reduce clutter and increase the space for people waiting to place their orders. It’s also a little smaller than a standard Dunkin’ Donuts and features a lounge area with flatscreen TVs to show customers promotions on the app or other digital channels.
Another cool feature is the Innovation Lab attached to the new store, where employees test new technology in the real world before rolling it out in stores. The lab has a wall of TVs showing how the company’s apps can be used in conjunction with other services like Waze and Google Assistant.
