What Does Initialize PS4 Do?

When you initialize your ps4, it deletes all of the user data on your console, returning it to factory settings. This is often used as a troubleshooting step or to prepare a console for sale or transfer. It is also a useful tool for those experiencing boot or hardware problems, but it is important to understand the consequences before proceeding with this process.

The first thing you will need to do is make sure that your console is turned off and unplugged from any power sources. You will then need to press and hold the power button until you hear two beeps (you will only have about 8 seconds to do this, as it takes some time for the system to start up). Once your console has started up in safe mode, you will be presented with a few options. These include Restore Default Settings, Initialize PS4 and Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software).

Both of the factory reset options will wipe your console’s hard drive, but the Full option will also remove all of the system software, so it is generally only recommended for those with severe issues. It is recommended that you back up any user data before choosing this option.

If you have a serious problem with your PlayStation 4 that is not fixed by other troubleshooting methods, the first thing to try is a factory reset. This will erase all of the data stored on your console, but it will usually resolve any issues that you are having.
