If there's one episode that sums up Bluey's philosophy, it's Rain. A simple, evocative vignette of a Brisbane rainstorm, it's brilliantly rendered by stunning sound design and animation. But it's the way Chilli gradually lets go of her attempts to stay dry and embraces playing with her daughter that really speaks to Bluey's ethos. In doing so, she's also provided a generation of frustrated parents with a perfect ersatz swear word: "Oh duck cake!"
This episode is a must-watch for anyone who loves this show. It captures a very specific moment in Australian childhood - the way that kids love the grubby, sticky outdoors and the fact that there are leeches, yabbies and dragonflies lying around everywhere if you look hard enough. It's also hilarious to watch Bandit, Chilli and Bingo frantically searching the bush for their missing car keys a la the TV show The Wrong Door. And, of course, it features the most glorious Busker dance sequence of all time.
