UMPC stands for Ultra Portable Computer and the devices that are referred to as such range from a cellular phone with a keyboard to a full laptop. The Wibrain B1 is a UMPC that is powered by a VIA mobile platform and has a 4.8" display with a split thumb keyboard, touch pad, and web cam. The B1 is powered by a 1.2Ghz CPU and 512MB of RAM. It also has a SD card slot, VGA port, and USB 2.0 port.

The Wibrain has a great battery life and is capable of running for 4-6 hours of web surfing or work. Using the battery saver feature and turning off wireless can help extend this run time even further. The unit can be plugged in to a monitor for presentations or other uses. The audio is somewhat weak and requires a good pair of speakers or headphones.

The software on the Wibrain is a little rough around the edges. Upgrading to Ubuntu 8.04 fixes most of these problems, but occasionally a problem can be encountered. For example, Evolution can be troublesome due to its unnecessarily large windows that extend past the 600 pixel screen height.
