In the Hebrew Bible, God’s personal name is YHWH. It’s so sacred that you’re not supposed to say it aloud or use it in vain, as it could be interpreted as blasphemy. But there are other divine names, or at least name-like phrases, that you might hear used: elohim and sebaoth. These are all forms of the same root, which means “gods,” although they generally refer to the divine beings that make up the universe.

A griffin was a mythical creature with an eagle’s wings and a lion’s head and tail. It’s a fun and unique name that would be perfect for an adventurous little one. Hades was the Greek king of the underworld and brother to Zeus and Poseidon. This is a powerful name that isn’t likely to be a hit as a first name, but it could be a great middle or surname.

Ariadne was the daughter of King Minos in ancient Greece, and she helped Theseus escape from the labyrinth where the Minotaur was kept. It’s a beautiful name with a strong meaning, and it sounds like the trendy Ari. Maia is a pretty Greek name that means “mother.” It sounds similar to Maya and could be a good choice for a spring baby. Zephyr is the Greek word for west wind. It’s a cool name that has the potential to be popular thanks to video games and books. It’s also a popular superhero name in the Marvel comics.
