March 2 marks the 109th birthday of Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, an artist and author of numerous children’s books whose amusing wordplay and engaging tales have helped generations of young Americans enjoy reading and develop basic literacy skills, which are key to success in the classroom and in life. Geisel’s work has also prompted students to think creatively and critically, and his wit and imagination are still evident in the many classics such as The Cat in the Hat, Fox in Socks, and Horton Hears a Who!
To celebrate the iconic writer’s birthday, PBS KIDS is kicking off a month of Seussian fun beginning March 1 with new content on-air, online and on mobile. Kids can join everyone’s favorite cat, Nick and Sally, in a series of new science adventures that explore concepts from as far away as outer space to as close as inside the human body.
In addition, Bee Caves Public Library will hold its 8th Annual Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration from 2-4 p.m. in the Community Room. The event will include games, a Reader’s Oath with Caroline Murphy, Mayor of Bee Caves, and a concert by Joe McDermott.
