When the Retarded Kid Memes Go Mainstream, Who Gets Left Behind?

When the retarded kid memes came out, a lot of people were disgusted. They knew that a word like retarded was meant to spread hate, promote exclusion, and make a group of disabled people feel less than. They also know that it’s not funny.

But what I wonder is, what about the kids who aren’t funny? The ones who aren’t making the world a better place by splicing together Numa Numa dance moves and LonelyGirl15 mashups, but the kids who are sick or hurt or have no idea what they’re doing? When the retarded kid memes go mainstream, who gets left behind?
