Who Makes Vizio TVs?

Founded 19 years ago after a near-tragedy for its founder, Vizio has become one of America’s top TV makers. Its low prices, which make it cheaper than rival products of similar size and features, have been key to its success. Vizio also has lines of more expensive TVs that compete with the likes of Samsung, LG and Sony.

Vizio designs its TVs in California and outsources the manufacturing to companies that produce parts and components, a model that’s very similar to Apple’s strategy. Currently, eight different companies — AmTran Technology, Foxconn, BOE, Innolux, KIE, Tonly, and TPV — build most of the TVs in Vizio’s 2022 lineup, with two of those companies, AmTran and Foxconn, responsible for more than 60 percent of the company’s total production load.

While it doesn’t do the actual manufacturing itself, Vizio is making inroads into becoming a tech company in its own right, leveraging its SmartCast platform to get ads in front of users, which has been successful enough that the company plans to debut at top advertising industry events such as NewFronts. Vizio’s contracts prevent it from saying which advertisers it works with, but brands including Campbell Soup, Guinness, Fitbit, AT&T and Progressive are already spending money to reach viewers on the platform.

Last year, Vizio saw a spike in revenue from its “Platform Plus” service, which helps it track viewing data for customers and sells that information to advertisers. It’s a way for the company to offset sluggish profit growth from its television sales.
