Why does my laptop fan keep running?
Most of the time, your laptop’s fans are designed to cool down the computer. However, when they’re too loud or aren’t working correctly, this could be a sign that something is wrong.
If you’re a heavy user of resources-hungry apps or games, your laptop may be overheating, which will lead to the fan spinning faster and for longer periods of time. This is caused by an overloaded processor or GPU, and it’s usually a good idea to solve this issue as soon as possible.
Another reason why your laptop’s fan might be constantly spinning up and down is because of too many web browser tabs. Web browsers like Firefox are notorious for causing this, so disabling add-ons and decreasing the number of tabs you have open might help.
Cleaning your laptop’s vents, especially the bottom vents, might also make a difference. Dust builds up inside the computer over time and can block the airflow around your computer’s fan.
To clean the vents, use a can of compressed air to remove any clumps of dust. Then, gently blow the vents to clear them of any accumulated debris.
If your laptop’s fan still keeps running even after you have a clean ventilation system and don’t have any issues with resource-hungry apps or games, it’s time to run a hardware diagnostics test. Dell provides built-in and online hardware diagnostics tests that can identify the cause of your issue and provide solutions.
