Why Is Instagram Asking For My Birthday?

Instagram has begun requesting users’ date of birth in recent weeks, a move that may seem alarming for some users who are unfamiliar with the platform’s age verification process. The Meta-owned app requires this information to create a safer environment for its young users, enforce age restrictions and comply with privacy regulations. Failure to provide accurate birthday information can lead to account suspension or even removal.

The company has stated that it will eventually require all Instagram accounts to verify their age by entering their date of birth. This will make the platform safer for minors and help keep predatory adults off of the site. Currently, the app’s age verification process involves a pop-up asking users to enter their date of birth during sign up or profile creation. The prompt can be dismissed by tapping “Not Now,” but it will return the next time the user opens the app.

If a user is not sure whether their birthdate on Facebook and Instagram match, they can reach out to Instagram’s support team for assistance. In addition, the company recommends clearing cache and cookies on their device and re-entering their birthday information to resolve any errors.

In addition, Instagram also allows users to edit their date of birth on their profile. However, users are only able to edit this information a limited number of times. If a user does not update their birthday, they will receive an error message and will not be able to access their account.
