woodventure lamp review

A sleek, stylish alternative to a bedside lamp with a built-in rechargeable battery and an adjustable shade. You can tilt the shade to angle the light exactly where you need it and turn the LED bulb on or off using a dial—it's an integrated light, so it's not replaceable, but this type of LED is rated for 25,000 hours (around 8 1/2 years) if kept on eight hours per day.

A cool twist: The disc-shaped lighting unit can actually be twisted to unlock the top and bottom sections of the accordion, turning it into a lantern mode that's ideal for illuminating a book you're reading or a corner of the room where you think a cockroach is crawling. It's a great idea for outdoor lighting or as a moody accent on a mantel.

Flaws but not dealbreakers: The light is a little difficult to install, even with the help of the how-to video included on WoodVenture's website and some handy diagrams. Also, the dimmer dial can crack over time, but it's easy to switch between preset modes on a compatible smartphone app to get the look you want without having to touch anything.

It's an ingenious design, perfect for anyone who likes to read before going to sleep or if you have a small bedroom and can't afford a bedside table. It's also easy to bring along with you to a friend's house or to your own next dinner party—you can hang it on the wall, place it on the floor, or simply take it in your hand.
